And we have a winner!!!

I think it's pretty clear that the majority would like Thanksgiving to be on Thursday. I think we should shoot for dinner around 5pm since some of us will not arrive until noon on Thursday.

Accommodations will be at the fabulous Keno's Llama Ranch.

Attendees:

We also need an official head count. I sent out a potential list a few days ago of possible participants. Here's the new list with some additional details:

Carstens (4)
Alex and Jen
Adam and Laura
Bettina and Aaron
Lauren
Drew
Ian (and Molly?)

Klayton

Jana and Dustin

Sonderickers (5) ?

Supplies:

Brandy and I were discussing how we all brought everything and the kitchen sink last time, only to discover a fully stocked kitchen. We can prolly tone down on the supplies this year. I would like to request that the Carstens bring their fabulous mixer so I can make whip cream again.

Food:

Jana: Pecan pie, apple pie, whipped cream, fruit, tea, succotash

Dustin: Pumpkin pie

Retka: Megaloaf, stuffing, sweet potatoes

Lauren: Cranberry sauce, gluten-free peanut butter ch0colate cookies and pumpkin bread.

Carstens: Green bean casserole, Gluten-free muffins and cookies, (turkey?)

Jen: Wine. (Please pitch in for wine and Jen will purchase it. I'm all for tasty good wine this year.), zucchini casserole.

Alex: mincemeat pie?

Ian: mashed potatoes, turkey loaf

Your assignment:

1) Let us know for sure if you are coming. It would be nice to know by September 30th so we can decide about accommodations.

2) Vote in the poll.

3) Let us know what you are intending on cooking or bringing to eat.

4) Let us know what supplies you are bringing.

Please send your responses by posting to this blog or sending an email.

As I receive information I will add it to this post. This will be your one stop information center as the day approaches.

The carsten clan will bring the green bean casserole, some gluten free muffins and cookies. Perhaps we'll do the turkey this year if no one else has their heart set on it.

I love the quaint small town holiday parade that happens on the friday following the thursday. and then there's Saturday for the hiking and fun outside.

It's a good thing you have taken a leave of absence from your midwife-ing, Jana. Planning the Gobbles is clearly a full-time job.

I will be bringing Megaloaf, stuffing and sweet potatoes.

But also, I just think it's too late to be talking about Gobblerfest '09. Let's face it—we missed our window. Let's turn the discussion to 2010 instead.

Hee-hee.

I'm thinking of bringing cranberry salad, gluten free peanut butter/ chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread.

Are we still discussing the Retka Mega Meatloaf? What exactly is in that? Isn't it something we would eat, traditionally speaking, on the day after with all the other leftovers? Is it anything like Tofurkey?

The Megaloaf will be a squab or quail inside a pheasant inside a chicken inside a duck inside a turkey. With bacon. There will be stuffing. It will be goddamn delicious.

As long as it has bacon...

:)

I have suggested to Aaron that we use a cured pork product of some variety as a glue layer between each of the above.

I've heard prosciutto goes quite well with duck.

nothing goes well with duck.

Really aaron, if we are to have to stick to Thursday Thanksgiving out of tradition, then we will have to skip the meat loaf. Show me how the piggies eat!!

I really feel that ya'll will shut up and eat what's put in front of you. Have I not proven that I can cook with stunning aplomb? K, then.

Also, I think we need more polls on the site. Here's one:

Q: Should we have more polls? Y/N?
